Couponing 101

I've had people ask me in stores "Is couponing hard?" or "Is using coupons worth it?" Here is my answer. Couponing does seem hard at the beginning but is totally worth it when you get "coupon high". Here I will try to explain how I learned how to coupon and hopefully help you in the process.

Where to get my coupons?

Sunday Newspapers. Search coupons on the internet.. In Stores and there is a site called Coupon Clippers that you can buy coupons from. Coupons.com RedPlum.com SmartSource is just a view sites you can print coupon's offline that I know off the top of my head. You can also like the products on facebook and they will have coupons you can print as well. Another way is by contacting the company of the product you love yourself- I have done this and received coupons via mail. The magazine All You also has coupons in it each month. If you want store coupons, Target is my favorite place! I don't have a Kroger near me, but if you do you can go to their site and upload coupons to your Kroger card as well as go to CellFire.

Most coupons can be printed twice. Just go back to that site, find the coupons again and PRINT :)

I print my coupons in black and white- to save ink! I also cancel my printing when I see an ad is about to print. Cut the coupon out and if its a smaller page...use that page for when I know I'll just be printing one coupon.

Where do I keep my coupons?

When I first started using coupons I kept them in an file holder. After awhile it was VERY frustrating for me so I switched to the binder method.
My Coupon Binder

Mistakes I have made in the Past:

Looking at the picture on the coupon instead of reading the fine print. The picture on the coupon is normally the biggest size of that certain item. Sometimes the coupon is for a smaller size than shown on the picture. Make sure you read the fine print and forget about that picture!

Using a free coupon just because it says free! Okay yes you're probably calling me crazy for saying this now...but don't use it right away. Use it when you have a Buy one get one free deal, or to roll your Extra Care Bucks at CVS :). Or wait until its about to expire.

I once had a coupon for Buy one Get one free Stayfree 18 ct. So I used it because it was about to expire. Next day I went through my coupon binder to find a coupon for $1.00 off any stayfree product. Thought to myself.. I could have used that yesterday right? Searched it on the internet and then called my local Wal-Mart. Yes I could have used it- lesson learned!

I may sound mean for saying this but always profile. Look for the youngest cashier or for the male cashier. 9 times out of 10 they are the best when it comes to coupons. I once went to an older lady( bless her heart ) because of line was open, I was tired and ready to get out of there. I had about 20 coupons, she looked over EVERY one of them. I spent 30 minutes at that register. Needless to say I was fake smiling by the time I paid her.

Being brand loyal. Saying that meaning I would only pay certain brands of a certain product. Now if the product is on sale and I can get it for really cheap or free...I try it.If I don't like it I don't buy again if I do, then there is one more brand I love!

Doubling Coupons- Explain?

This was one part of coupons that caught me off guard. A coupon can be doubled? How? Here's how!
Fred's for example only doubles coupons on Saturdays. They double any coupon up to $.70 so that means if you take a $0.70 coupon in and use it, it will in total be $1.40 taken off. The couponing doubling automatically happens at the register when your coupon is scanned.  Be aware that most stores will only double a certain number of each of the same coupon- so know your store policy. Some coupons state plan as day- DO NOT DOUBLE. If the barcode starts with a "5" they will :) - I just recently found this out!  If you do not know your store's coupon policy search it online or call them and ask! Doubling Coupons isn't that hard afterall right!?

Store Polices
You can always contact the store you are wanting to policy for or look it up on the internet. I highly suggest you to print the policy off because you never know when you might run into a problem and it doesn't hurt to have the policy with you :)
